For those living with disabilities, traditional displacement camps are not just inadequate; they are inaccessible. Bridges of Hope is pioneering the "Accessible Havens" project—the first dedicated humanitarian camps designed to provide dignity, mobility, and essential services to those who need them most. Camp Components (Serving 150 patients and their families – 600 people per camp): • Accessible Shelters: Tents specifically designed for wheelchair maneuverability and safe, paved pathways. • Healthcare & Physical Therapy: Dedicated zones for medical rehabilitation and specialized prosthetic care. • Inclusive Education & Art: Educational spaces offering adapted curricula for children with visual, hearing, or cognitive disabilities. • Psychosocial Support: Individual and group counseling sessions to help families cope with the trauma of loss and displacement. The war in Gaza has deprived hundreds of thousands of children of their right to education. Children with disabilities face even greater challenges due to the destruction of schools, repeated displacement, and the lack of accessible learning environments, placing their education and future at serious risk. According to the United Nations, most children in Gaza have experienced prolonged interruptions to their education, while children with disabilities require specialized educational and rehabilitation support to continue learning and maintain essential developmental skills. In response, Jusoor Al-Amal (Bridges of Hope) Association has launched the Educational Tent Program for Children with Disabilities in Gaza, creating a safe and inclusive learning space that combines education, psychosocial support, rehabilitation activities, and recreational programs for children most affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The educational tent is more than a temporary classroom. It is a place where children can regain a sense of safety, rebuild confidence, continue learning, and reconnect with their peers in an environment designed to meet their individual needs. The program is delivered by qualified teachers, special education specialists, and psychosocial support professionals, providing inclusive learning activities, life skills, emotional support, and recreational sessions that help children overcome the impact of conflict. The first phase of the project focuses on establishing one fully equipped educational tent, furnished with learning materials, educational resources, assistive devices, and child-friendly spaces capable of serving dozens of children every day. Restoring Mobility, Restoring Dignity Thousands of people with disabilities in Gaza face immense challenges due to war-related injuries, damaged infrastructure, and the severe shortage of mobility aids. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Gaza currently requires more than 32,000 mobility assistive devices, while over 20,000 essential mobility aids, including wheelchairs, remain unavailable. Restrictions on medical supplies continue to delay the delivery of wheelchairs and rehabilitation equipment, leaving many children, adults, and elderly people unable to access healthcare, education, or even leave their homes. In response to this urgent humanitarian need, Jusoor Al-Amal (Bridges of Hope) Association has launched the Wheelchair Support Program for People with Disabilities in Gaza. The first phase aims to provide 50 wheelchairs to the most vulnerable beneficiaries, restoring mobility, independence, and dignity. Our Vision A wheelchair is more than a mobility device. It is a gateway to education, healthcare, employment, and social participation. Through this program, we seek to empower people with disabilities and improve their quality of life while supporting their long-term rehabilitation. Project Objectives The program aims to provide suitable wheelchairs for people with mobility disabilities, improve their independence, facilitate access to healthcare and education, reduce health complications caused by immobility, and ease the financial burden on vulnerable families. Target Beneficiaries Priority is given to children with disabilities, amputees, people with spinal cord injuries, individuals with permanent war-related disabilities, elderly people with limited mobility, and low-income families unable to afford mobility aids. Implementation Each beneficiary undergoes a medical and social assessment to ensure the wheelchair matches their specific needs. The program also includes user guidance, family orientation, and follow-up to maximize long-term benefit.
